The 2021 Jeep® Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 lbs. with the right configuration. At the least, it can still tow 3,500 lbs. The available 6.4L V8 engine is equipped to handle towing more weight than your average SUV can with its 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. So, let’s take a look at each trim and see what it’s rated to tow.
|Trim||Max Towing Capacity|
|Laredo E||3,500 lbs.|
|Laredo X||3,500 lbs.|
|80th Anniversary||3,500 lbs.|
|Limited X||3,500 lbs.|
|High Altitude||6,200 lbs.|
Pretty impressive, right? You can tow either 3,500 lbs., 6,200 lbs., or 7,200 lbs. depending on which trim you get. Even the lowest among those is impressive! Many SUVs can only get a maximum of 3,500 lbs., so you know you’re getting your money’s worth of SUV towing capacity with the Jeep® Grand Cherokee towing capacity! We’re expecting similar, and perhaps even more impressive, numbers from the 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee, so keep an eye out for the newest model!
If you have an older model Jeep® Grand Cherokee, don’t worry. You haven’t been hung out to dry as far as the towing game goes. While we may be a great new Jeep® dealer in San Antonio, we’re also a used Jeep® dealer San Antonio drivers can rely on to get them a great SUV that can still tow a ton, like 2014–2016 models!
|2014||6,200 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
|2015||3,500 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
|2016||3,500 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
If you have a relatively newer used model, your numbers are going to look very similar to everything you’ve already seen. You’ll still be able to tow a great amount with your Jeep® Grand Cherokee towing capacity, so check out what those numbers are!
|2017||3,500 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
|2018||3,500 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
|2019||3,500 lbs.–7,200 lbs.|
All Jeep® Grand Cherokee towing capacity numbers are at least 3,500 lbs., as you can see. All model years have also seen trims that get a max towing capacity of up to 7,200 lbs. So, whether you’re coming to us for a used model or you want to get one of our brand new Jeep® Grand Cherokee lease deals, all your towing tasks will be taken care of.
The Jeep® Grand Cherokee can tow as much as 7,200 lbs. with the SRT and Trackhawk trims. Other models get either 6,200 lbs. max or 3,500 lbs. max. For example, the Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trailhawk® towing capacity is rated at a max of 6,200 lbs., as is that of the High Altitude trim. The rest of the trims get 3,500 lbs. maximum.
The Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT® and Trackhawk® have the highest maximum towing capacity at 7,200 lbs. when properly equipped. This is because they come ready for the job with a 6.4L and a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine, respectively, that give you up to 645 pound-feet of torque. If you know you have some big or intensive towing jobs ahead, these will be the trim you should look into getting.
Absolutely, especially if you’re getting the SRT® or Trackhawk® trims! Always make sure to measure both the trailer weight and the weight of what you’re loading onto it. If the combination of the two exceeds the 7,200 lbs., you cannot tow it with those two trims. There is a lot more you can tow with the Jeep® Grand Cherokee, too, like campers and boats!
This is a heavy-duty SUV, so it needs heavy-duty equipment to get the job done. The Trailer Tow Group IV makes any towing job easier by adding on a 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, a Class IV hitch receiver, rear load-leveling suspension, and additional engine cooling. You’ll even get an added full-size spare tire! Jeep® brand knows how to take care of their most intense towers.
So, now you know alllllll of the Jeep® Grand Cherokee towing capacity numbers. If you’re confident to set out on your first — or even your 500th — tow, we’re here for you. Get the SUV itself or come to us for answers about how to tow safely and efficiently. We can’t wait to see you take off with a trailer, boat, camper, or anything else in tow!
