Chrysler Still the Minivan King

You want to see a pretty crazy number?  Since 2007, Chrysler has held at least 40% of the U.S. minivan market at any given time.  We know that's not as flashy as, say, holding half of the racecar market or a third of the spaceship market, but minivans were invented (by us, we might add) because they were practical, not flashy.  Even today, families looking for a top-notch people-pusher that's equally helpful for shopping trips as it is for vacations and transporting the kiddo's soccer team will look to our 2012 Chrysler Town & Country or our 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.  Why?  Because they're the best in the business, and the Caravan has been around since the early 1980s in one form or another.  People trust our minivans because they should.  There's no shame in that.

But there could be some changes on the horizon in the way we design and market these fine automobiles.  At some point, we may have to decide whether we really want to keep two minivans in our lineup, and if we are going to consolidate, which of the two will we keep?

Typically, the Grand Caravan is the option taken by more budget-conscious consumers, while the Town & Country is seen as the more upscale minivan in the Chrysler stable.  Despite that, both are built on the same platform and are, in a lot of ways, very similar vehicles.

Of course, picking one or the other (or even keeping both) is only the start.  We know we'll have to adapt to stay on top of the minivan market, and we're okay with that.  In San Antonio, new Jeep Wrangler drivers have loved our upgrades there; it's only a matter of time before our minivans get there, too.
