Jeep Grand Cherokee Set to Go EV

If we compiled a list of clear winners in the automotive world from 2011, there's no question that the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee would be somewhere on that list.  Numerous vehicle reviewers and even more happy customers have rated this among Chrysler's best automobiles, and they've done so for a number of reasons.  We could talk about how great it looks, or how well it drives on and off-road, or even how versatile it is as a family vehicle, and anybody who currently owns the latest iteration of the car would be nodding their heads in agreement.

However, there's one thing that this vehicle can't do yet-keep nasty carbon emissions out of the atmosphere-but that's about to change.

Later this month at the Detroit Auto Show, an Ohio-based company called Amp Electric Vehicles will unveil a completely electric version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that could absolutely change the way people drive Jeep's famous SUVs.

Like a lot of EVs, this one will have the ability to cruise for about 100 miles on a single charge, and while we understand this isn't an overwhelming number, it is more or less the industry standard.  Consider it a starting point for bigger and better things to come.

The JGC EV will feature a 37 kWh battery that will take about 3.5 hours to charge at a 220-volt charging station, and if that actually holds true it means a much quicker charge than a lot of the other EVs out on the market right now.  Like we said, this could be a game-changer for San Antonio Jeep Grand Cherokee dealers.

Let's just say, for example, that this is a vehicle you're accustomed to taking out into the wilderness for camping or hunting trips.  Wouldn't it be nice to know that the vehicle you're driving isn't doing anything damaging to the nature you hold so dear?  Of course it would, and if this is something that gains traction within Chrysler it could only be a matter of time before all those glowing reviews for the vehicle get even glowier.  Assuming that happens, the Jeep Grand Cherokee could end up one of the big winners of 2012, as well.
